Weekend Reading- July

Weekend Reading- a round up of the books I’ve read recently and really enjoyed.

It is time for a book round up! Here are my picks for July…
Books July

Three Wishes– Liane Moriarty. I love pretty much anything she writes. This one, although not my absolute favorite, (that would be this book, which is being made into a movie!) was still very enjoyable. Liane is such a charming writer and her characters are always so interesting.

The Obsession– Nora Roberts. I’d gone off her books in the past year, but the reviews for this one were good so I figured I’d give it a shot. It’s really good- one of her best in years in my opinion.

The Rumor– Elin Hilderbrand. Quintessential summer reading. Quick read, fun characters, exactly what I needed to keep me occupied on several trips.

What have you read lately? Any good recommendations? Would love to hear…

  1. I love Liane Moriarty too! So excited for her new book “Truly, Madly, Guilty” and for the Husband’s Secret TV series!!! Here are my favorite latest reads:

    Defending Jacob by William Landay
The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende
    The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
Secrets of a Charmed Life by Susan Meissner
The Rosie Project by Graeme Sismion
The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom

The Rosie Project is probably the only one that might fit into the light summer read category. I listened to it on Audible so I enjoyed the Australian accent, and I loved the characters!
The Kitchen House is especially intense but fascinating and I think you also read the Nightingale already? Amazing! Probably one of my favorite books of all time!
I love Isabel Allende and I enjoyed the Japanese Lover.
Not her best, but covers and interesting piece of American history I knew little about.
The last 20 pages of Defending Jacob will blow your mind!
Secrets of a Charmed Life was also interesting and covered the London Blitz – another piece of history I knew little about.

Hope there are a few in here you haven’t read yet! I am adding The Rumor and The Obsession to my wishlist. Thanks!

    1. I’m about 1/2 way through Truly Madly Guilty, so far so good! πŸ™‚ This is so funny as we clearly have the same taste in books- I loved Rosie project and also listened to the audiobook. (Sort of the only way I “read”) πŸ™‚ There is a part 2- The Rosie Effect- also good. Have you read it? Nightingale and Defending Jacob I read and loved too. I’m putting all of those others on my list right now! Thanks so much for the recommendations

      1. Hahaha!!!! I love it! We are so alike in so many ways! I did know about Rosie Effect but haven’t listened to it yet (I too only listen to my books these days!). I will warn you that the Kitchen House was sometimes disturbing, but still very good.
By the way, I am absolutely loving your blog! Miss you, friend!

  2. Thanks for the recommendations, Jules. You listed 3 of my favorite authors here so I think I will give all 3 a try. Like you, I have been off Nora Roberts for a long time (probably a decade) because the books were all so repetitive. It will be fun to try one of her books again.

I have been into reading travel memoirs lately and my favorites come from Laura Bradbury’s Grape series – My Grape Year, My Grape Escape, My Grape Village and My Grape Wedding. It’s the story of a Canadian exchange student’s experiences and ultimate life in Burgundy. If you haven’t already, give them a try. I think you will love Laura’s style.

  3. I didn’t know they were making a show about “The Husband’s Secret” !!!! I love her books and need to read the new book. I have read some of Elin Hildebrands books and like her style too, my sister got me into her. You should do more posts about books as I’m getting lots of suggestions from this πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
