I have talked many times about my love for Christian Dior’s Diorshow Blackout mascara. It is a holy grail product for me. I’ve been using it for a decade and it still remains my #1 favorite mascara, hands down. It takes my lashes from blah to fabulous in a single coat thanks to its super dark kohl pigmentation. (I’m all about the dramatic eye lashes)
In talking to girlfriends and co-workers on this topic, I’ve found that many women are very picky about their mascara- much more so than other make-up products. And it makes sense, right? Some people want lengthening, some want curling, some just care about adding volume. Or maybe you want all of this? (if so- try the Christian Dior!) And many of you have a die-hard favorite too, one that you go back to time and time again. (I was amazed at how many people commented on the wand rather than the overall result of the mascara)
A couple of months ago I ran out of my beloved Blackout and made a mental note to myself to order some more. Then I remembered a promise that I made to myself that I would try out the gazillion samples of mascaras I had piled up thanks to subscription boxes. (you guys- I counted 12 of them) Most of them were minis, so I could use them each for a few days and figure out if I liked them. I was really curious to see if anything would be amazing enough to bump Blackout off its numero uno position.
It took me several weeks to get through them. Not surprisingly, most of them didn’t wow me. A couple were actually down right terrible. But you know what? I found 2 that were good. Really, really good. Like, I am actually still considering which one I’m going to purchase now that my samples have run out. (I’m still leaning towards the Dior in case you’re curious)
Contender #1- Estee Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting mascara. It went on dark, thick, rich and lasted all day. It took 2 coats, but who cares- the result was worth it. Solid product- I’d buy it again.
The other was Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye mascara. It was an instant hit with me. It reminded me so much of the Dior as it too, had a dark kohl pigmentation. My eye lashes were thicker and longer and I swear this mascara is every bit as good as my Dior. Almost. #rideordie
