Make-up and / or beauty posts are my absolute favorite to write and I’ve got some good stuff to chat about today! A couple of months ago I did a big cosmetics clean-out. I was organizing everything in our master bathroom and took the time to look long and hard at which products I was regularly using and which ones I just never reached for. (a sure sign they are collecting dust and need to go)

I tossed a bunch of things that I’d had for far longer than I’m willing to admit to you all, which (of course) meant that I had room for some new goodies! 🙂 That’s the way it works, right?

recent beauty buys tarte blush palette

Tarte Limited Edition Blush Bazaar Amazonian Clay Blush Palette – There about 1,000 reasons why I love this blush palette so much, but I will try to rein it in and stick with the top few:

First of all, Tarte’s Amazonian 12-Hour Clay blush is formulaic perfection– it really does last all day and the pigmentation is fantastic. I don’t know if the clay formula just compliments my oily skin, but it’s the longest wearing blush I’ve ever tried.

Secondly, this palette has 10 shades- 8 blushes and 2 highlighters. I like, no, LOVE that you have so many different colors in one relatively small palette. Do you know how much room 10 separate blushes would take up in a cosmetics bag? It is one palette with oh so many options…pink, rose, peach, coral. There are lots of choices that work for both warm and cool tones, in both matte and shimmer. Just YAS. This would be great for traveling too.

Thirdly- it is priced so well- $44. That is stupid cheap for the quality of the product and the amount of colors you get.

Also- look how pretty it is, I mean- come on.

Moving on.

Bobbi Brown

Bobbi Brown Satin & Caviar Eye-Shadow and Long Wear Gel Eyeliner Palette – It had been years since I’d bought any Bobbi products (for no particular reason), but as soon as I saw this limited edition smokey eye palette, I knew it would be super wearable for my skin tone.

I’ve been using it pretty much every other day for work, but it would be easy to go a little darker / heavier for a more dramatic, nighttime look. The gel eyeliner glides on easily and is a really smooth formula. It also doesn’t hurt that the palette comes wrapped in gorgeous burgundy leather 🙂

Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Make-Up Setting Spray – I’ll admit I bought this on a whim. I’d never thought much about needing a setting spray, but had always heard how great this one from Urban Decay was. The almost year-round humidity in Florida makes it tough to keep your make-up looking good for an entire day, so when a Sephora pop-up “recommended” it to me, I figured I’d give it a try. Tip of the hat to those online algorithms!
I ended up trying it on a Friday since we had a concert after work and I had no time to freshen up in between. Truth be told, it doesn’t smell all that great, so when I spritzed it on my made-up face before walking out the door, I had partially decided that I didn’t like it. But, when I checked my face at 6:45 p.m. before driving to the show, I was impressed with how well my make-up still looked. Most surprising was that it somehow still looked good even at 11:00 p.m. I was pretty much hooked.
Even more than the long-lasting effect, I like how it “sets” my foundation. It doesn’t make me too dewy or cakey, it just helps my foundation sit beautifully on my skin. I’ve been using it every day since.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – I never thought the day would come that my beloved, ride-or-die Dior mascara would get booted from its numero uno position, but it did. We had a solid 15 years together boo, but I found something even better.

You guys, this mascara is the real deal. I have always joked about the “mascara effect.” Of all the make-up, people are the most picky / personal about mascara. Everyone is so loyal to whatever brand they use- way more so than say, eye-liner or lipstick. What’s up with that? I have friends who swear by brands with tiny wands to help coat each lash, while some prefer thick curved versions…everyone I know uses something different and will tell you why it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Drug-store, high-end, it’s all over the map.

Me? I’ll be hard pressed to find something better than this stuff. I had a sample of it and fell in love the very first time I used it. It gives you the most gorgeous long, thick, DRAMATIC, luscious lashes with one. freaking. coat. The end.

Julep When Pencil Met Gel Long-Lasting Eyeliner  (Smoky Taupe Shimmer)- I repurchase this over and over again. Of all the gel eye-liner I’ve tried, I think Julep’s is the creamiest / silkiest and easiest to smoke-out. I am in love with the taupe shade too- I’ll swatch it below.

Charlotte Tilbury “Rock ‘n’ Kohl” Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil (Barbarella Brown) – This is a little more than I would normally spend on eye-liner as I’m a firm believer that it is one of the best places to save money when it comes to cosmetics. I can hardly ever tell the difference between drug-store and higher-end brands. (same with lip-liner and eye-brow pencils)

I’d been hearing a lot about Charlotte Tilbury products recently and needed a new brown eyeliner, so I fell victim to FOMO and bought it. (in my defense, I had a gift card) Total side note- stores like Nordstrom and Sephora have great return policies on products, even if you’ve used it it, so that helps if you’re on the fence about something)

Anyway, this stuff is gorgeous…it really does glide on like a liquid liner but in pencil format. It is well pigmented and the brown that I chose is really rich and bold. (didn’t photograph well, but I swatched it below for you) I also like that its waterproof so it doesn’t budge throughout the day.

Anything you’ve tried recently that you’ve loved? Let me know in the comments!
