Inside my beach bag.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. One of my favorite sections in any UsWeekly magazine is the “What’s in my Bag” page where celebrities dump out their purses and bags to show us what they carry around with them each day. I’m not sure why this is so interesting to me, but it is. I even once pinned about 10 things on Pinterest about the best way to pack a carry on bag/what you should include when traveling. I just find it oddly fascinating to see what other people find necessary and what shortcuts/good ideas they have. It inspired me to do my own version- inside my beach bag.
Summer is in full swing these days and I love being able to pop over to our neighborhood pool or head down to the beach for a few hours of fun in the sun. It’s so relaxing to just lay there and read and listen to music and clear your mind. I like to always keep my beach/pool bag packed and ready to go at all times, so all I have to do is put on a bathing suit and head out the door.
The bag itself. I hate having to carry anything too heavy and often strap my bag to the back of my bicycle so I can bike to our pool, so I use this soft material DaKine bag.
Waterproof/Zip-Proof pouch. I don’t want sunscreen leaking all over everything in my bag, or sand getting everywhere, so I keep a separate pouch inside my beach bag to hold smaller items. A Zip-loc bag works perfectly, but I got this cute hot pink zipper pouch in my March PopSugar Must Have box, so I figured I’d use it this summer. It is BRIGHT, so it is easy to find in my bag. 🙂
Sunscreen. This is a given- I don’t care how well you tan, everyone should be wearing sunscreen when in the sun! I used to keep several different kinds in here, but I’ve scaled back and now only keep 3 on me; 2 types for my body (1 spray and 1 lotion) As much as I love the spray, it doesn’t always cover as well as the lotions do. (and my husband will only use the lotion) I usually have an SPF 30 and an SPF 45. (these are both almost empty, so I’m finishing them before replacing with another SPF 45) Long gone are the days when I’d lay-out all day in SPF 8 or SPF 15- it’s just not enough. And you really DO tan with high-level sunscreen on, not sure why it took me so long to understand that concept. By the way- The Honest Co.’s sunscreens are awesome- no harsh chemicals and I don’t get little red bumps like I do from some other sunscreens. They’ve revamped their formula recently and I love it . (I use a bunch of their stuff- you should out their line)
Facial sunscreen. If you’re the type of person who can put regular ‘ol sunscreen on your face, good for you. I will break-out like crazy, so I have to use something mild, non-comedogenic and gentle enough for my face. Right now I’m using Peter Thomas Roth’s Anti-Aging Defense stick. I love this stuff- it provides a lot of protection (SPF 50) and it doesn’t smell or burn my eyes. It also rubs in really well- good stuff.
Another great choice for face protection with a little bit of color/tinted coverage is Cotz Face Natural Skin Tone Sheer Matte Finish. It goes on so matte and has just the right amount of coverage. I love wearing this when I’m just out running errands and don’t want a full face of make-up.
Lip Protection. Lips are one of the most over-looked places when it comes to applying sunscreen. (as are scalp and tips of ears) I always keep a lip balm with SPF in it in my bag. Remembering to re-apply it frequently is another story…
Headphones. I have a pair dedicated to my beach bag so they are always there when I need them. I used to forget to bring a pair and as an avid audio book listener, would be out of luck. (aren’t these owl ear buds cute? Thanks Nina!)
Ibuprofen. I know this is a weird one, but sometimes I get headaches when hanging out in the sun all day enjoying a couple of cocktails 🙂 On more than one occasion I’ve been relieved to find it in my bag, so I always keep some in there.
Hair tie. Another thing you don’t want to be without- keep an extra one handy.
Oversized towel and something to read
Hat/Visor- although I have many different hats I wear out in the sun, I always keep this light-weight, washable Vera Bradley visor in my bag at all times. It weighs next to nothing and ensures I always have something to protect my face.
Coozy. Duh- so that my drink stays cold! 🙂 As for the Emergen-C, I know that’s odd…I had a bunch I was trying to use up, so I threw one in my beach bag. I’ll add it to my water next time I’m out in the sun.
Whish Flawless Swipe Post Wax & Shave Serum. These little guys are great- just a quick swipe in case you have razor burn and little red bumps anywhere. Just keep one in there in case you find yourself needing it 😉
There you have it! What’s inside your beach bag?
