Ginger Pear Sangria

Last year my friend Laura e-mailed me a ginger pear sangria recipe that she’d served with great success at her (now) sister-in-law’s bridal shower. She said that it had been amazing and that everyone raved about it, so I put in my folder of things to (eventually) make. Knowing how much my mom loves all things ginger, I forwarded it to her, and she ended up serving it at a dinner party the next weekend. A few days later I got a phone call from her thanking me for the fabulous recipe and that it had been a hit at her party. I decided that I obviously needed to make this sangria stat!

Sure enough, it was delicious. Pear and ginger are such a autumnal pair and it’s my opinion that Prosecco just makes everything better. Tip- if you have trouble finding candied ginger, try World Market or Trader Joe’s.

Kudos to Camille Styles for “dreaming up” (her words) an utterly fantastic cocktail that is a proven crowd pleaser. Recipe below…

Cheers!

Ginger-Pear Sangria

  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 1/2 cup pear-flavored vodka
  • 1 bottle prosecco (or other sparkling wine)
  • 1/4 cup thinly-sliced candied ginger, plus a few pieces reserved for garnish
  • 1 bartlett pear, sliced

instructions Fill a pitcher 1/3 full with ice. Add apple juice, ginger and pear vodka; stir.

Add pear slices to pitcher, reserving a few for garnish. Let sit in refrigerator for a few hours so all the flavors marinate.

When ready to serve, fill remainder of pitcher with prosecco and serve. Serve in tall glasses, and garnish with small picks threaded with reserved candied ginger and pear slices.
