Because I have oily skin and live in a very humid climate, I tend to lean towards mineral make-up in powder form because I feel that liquid foundation can be too heavy for me. But on days when I’m wanting more coverage, I will use a lighter liquid foundation. (Bare Minerals recently came out with a really good one) On these days, I try to always use a primer before applying the foundation.
Up until a couple of years ago, I was pretty clueless about primer. I just didn’t like the idea of layering one more thing on my skin and didn’t see how it could make that much of a difference. Alas, I was wrong. Just a touch of primer can help keep oil at bay, reduce the look of large pores, and make your foundation go on evenly and smoother than when just on bare skin.
Thanks to my many beauty box subscriptions, I get plenty of primers to try from lots of different brands. To date, my favorite is by Laura Mercier, but I kept reading on Pinterest and beauty blogs about Miracle Blur by L’Oreal. It was getting great reviews, so obviously I had to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was half the price of my Laura Mercier and it worked as well as any of the high-end brands I’ve tried. It’s silky, contains SPF 30, and did a good job of keeping me shine free. If you want a good primer and don’t want to spend a ton of money, this is the primer for you.
The key to any primer is that a little goes a long way- just use a little dab and gently blend into the areas you usually apply foundation.
